Chicago

Today Paige and I had to say goodbye to Chicago…and to each other. This has to be one of the most difficult aspects of the expat life. All these goodbyes; they’re so hard on the heart. But somehow I think that when Paige and I look back on this time, we will probably remember it as something quite special…and not because we did anything special.

The pictures posted clearly prove we did nothing noteworthy. No, it was special because not only was it a vacation from location, but it was also a break from our designated roles. This weekend we were just girls hanging out.

So many of my parenting moments are spent lecturing, negotiating, instructing, or disciplining etc…but this trip had very little of that. Experts say parents should not be friends with their kids, and for the most part I agree. But every once in a while, being able to step away from the parenting role and just enjoy your kids without the judging, evaluating, and teaching is, well in a word…bliss. We should all be so lucky to experience moments like these.

So Goodbye Chicago…and Goodbye Paige. Until we see each other again…love you. 💞

One of our most beloved Mother/ Daughter traditions is “Lunch at Nordstrom’s.” So glad we got to do this again. Our final meal before the teary goodbye.
