Portofino-playground of the rich and famous. What are we doing there? Just wanna see how the other side lives. And who should we run into, but the most famous couple I know – Jerry Susan Thompson and her husband Roger.
I always suspected Jerry was “slumming” it, pretending to be a librarian aide, when secretly she’s a serious jet setter running around with celebrities and the like. Having been found out, Jerry and Roger graciously invited us to their splendid hotel with the million dollar view and plied with us with wine all afternoon. As a result, I saw nothing, but the bottom of my wineglass the entire day. That’s right, I can’t tell you a thing about Portofino. Nada!!!!!’
Instead we wiled away our time with our friends, talking, laughing, (some of us even napping), and just enjoying the resplendent day. Thanks so much Jerry and Roger for a wonderful afternoon. And just so you know, your secret is safe with me. I won’t tell a soul about your double life. But please can’t you get me just one picture with George Clooney? 🙏
Portofino is affectionately known as the Italian Riviera for good reason.
Million dollar homes and yachts everywhere.
Even if you are not famous, It’s still fun just to walk around the Piazzetta.
Hundreds of boats docked in every centimeter of space.
But everywhere you look, it’s pretty much postcard perfect.
Every city in Italy has a church no matter how small. Portofino is no exception.
Inside San Martino, it’s intricately decorated, but still a calm respite from the craziness outside.
Of course we had to stop for food. Lunch alfresco was excellent.
The seafood pasta was beautiful.
And so was our waiter…(um pretty much all the men are good looking here).
My new favorite dessert-Affogato. Ice cream with espresso poured over the top.
A stroll to walk off lunch, and look who we run into? Mr. Thompson and his glamorous wife trying to be incognito.
Jerry who always tells me, “Give that baby whatever she wants.”
Actually gave Olivia Roger’s ice cream right out from under him. Lol!
Jerry and Roger hosted us all afternoon. The time flew and the wine flowed…
And of course, there was always room for ice cream with Italian strawberries.
We looked out over the sea laughing and watching the boats go by.
We even played on the private pebble beach. The water is refreshing. That’s a euphemism for “cold.”
Thank you Jerry and Roger. We had a splendid day with you! See that mansion in the back? (That’s really Jerry’s sewing room).
